Being sophisticated and stylish with safe, cruelty-free and Black-owned vegan leather handbags are more affordable than you think.

Cruelty free fashion brands are trending styles. Popular fashion trends are unsustainable and expensive, but does it have to be that way?

BLK-ED focus on sustainability and quality of their products that does not sacrifice affordability. Black designers and Black owned custom design brands continue to grow in vegan fashion industry with a growing demand in vegan leather handbags, vegan crossbody bags and vegan wallets.

BLK-ED is a Black owned handbags brand made by African-American serial entrepreneur, Renee Ashman. She now lives in the Greater Toronto Area and her products are available for sale in Canada, UK and the United States.

Renee was inspired by her daughter to believe that anything is possible.

Before school started, Renee Ashman and her daughter were shopping for a school backpack. The BLK-ED founder was shocked that there were no Black Girl Art or Brown Girl Art backpacks that her child wanted! It was unbearable to see the disappointment in her daughter's eyes. So she took the matter in her own hands. Renee designed a custom Black Girl Art bag for her daughter and she now carries it everywhere.

When Renee Ashman went to the park, mothers approached them to compliment and ask where did she get her daughter's Black Girl backpack. She realized these Moms were going through the same struggle she felt before. There were no backpacks that represented a Black or Brown girl, Black boy art, designs for Muslim girl or Christian girl!

Renee Ashman put on her entrepreneur hat and BLK-ED was launched. A brand was born to empower people of color.

BLK-ED, like some Black owned designers and custom designer brands in fashion, lean towards ethical and sustainable fashion and production. Vegans and Black culture lovers are looking for vegan wearables by Black owned vegan fashion brands.

Renee Ashman not only brings ethical fashion with vegan handbags and vegan wallets, but BLK-ED also partners with independent artists of color to bring unique designs. The vegan leather custom design handbags and Black girl art backpacks are hand drawn by Black artists and artists of color.
